5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it claims, September 12, 2008

Assembly was a breeze and took about 10 minutes. The piece that mounts to the back of the door jam is plastic so I was a little weary of whether it would hold up well or not. I did a couple slow pullups using the various positions to make sure it wouldn’t fall apart on me and then did some reps and it feels pretty solid. I’m 180 lbs and it held fine, and supposedly can hold up to 300 lbs. It has grips and handles for the different various of pullups and chinups, which is what drew me to it over the other types I looked at. It can also be used for pushups, dips (although not very effective as you can’t get very low), and situps using the doorway.

Overall, it does was it claims and feels like a pretty good piece of equipment. After a week of regular use it remains solid and hasn’t done any damage to the door or wall. I would recommend this product for those who don’t want to, or can’t, mount a bar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, but never use, November 12, 2009

It’s a good device that does its job when it comes to pull ups. Pretty sturdy, easy to put together.
You can supposedly do a lot with this thing, but the only thing I use it for is pull ups, and maybe push ups. I found myself not really using it that often though. It sits in the closet and takes up a bit of space.
I have really mixed opinions about this product. When it comes to structure and design purpose, it does it job well. To me, its a bit expensive for some bars of metal, but I’m not a big spender. I usually just go to the gym and try to get more done there. Some people may not have the time though, so you would really have to decide if this is right for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Son swears by this, November 11, 2009
By April on Orcas (Eastsound, WA United States) -

I bought this for my son who wants to just have a quick work out during the day. He just hangs it in the bathroom doorway of his studio apartment and is able to do a little exercise in between homework and other activities. It’s light and easy to hang and take down and plenty sturdy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy!, November 6, 2009

Used to work out in the gym 3-4 times a week. Situationally haven’t been to gym. Having the iron gym at home has helped me keep my upper body and abs in shape. At first it might be hard but don’t give up. Like any work out routine it takes time to get used to. Once you are comfortable with it then it you’ll find yourself using it very regularly. Even if you visit the gym, this product will definitely prove valuable. You do need a decent door frame, if you have one and are thinking of getting this – then go ahead and get it right away!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad, November 5, 2009

This product isn’t too bad. It is really only good for three workouts (they advertise tricep dips as a forth). Various positions of pull ups, push ups and sit ups. Great tool for some complementary work away from the gym and it does not mark up your walls/ door frame.

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective on Arrival, November 3, 2009
By Annatha (Columbus, OH) -

I was really looking forward to using this piece of equipment, but when it arrived, I realized that the two arching bars that facilitate hooking the bar over the doorframe were of unequal length. When assembled, the system would not lie flat against the doorframe because the bars were uneven. The bar rocked like a drunkard on horseback when I tried to use it anyway–and so finally I just packed it up and sent it in for a refund. It was very disappointing. Buyer beware!

I ordered this to help stay in shape when i dont have time for the gym and i like it. Unfortunatly when i got mine it wasnt quite right so i had to bend it a little and its still a bit crooked. It still works though and i can get a good arm, and ab work out with it. I have to give it a 4 though because it is cheaply made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Iron Gym is fun, October 26, 2009
By chawanga -

The Iron gym was my second purchase of this type. The other one I had purchased was one from Wal-Mart, the gold gym product. It was cheap and a screw broke while we were assembling it. We took it back immediately.

The iron gym is far superior. Its steel construction is durable, easy to assemble and holds very firmly. I don’t have to worry about it slipping or its position loosening.

It is up at one of the doorways at my office and we all enjoy using it from time to time just walking past it and deciding to do a few pull-ups.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, Problem with assembly. somehow limited functionality, October 24, 2009
By EricSF2008 -

received the item promptly. It’s a nice and sturdy piece of equipment. Assembly ran into problem due to one of the bolts not fitting the screw. The best movement practice is what it is originally designed for: the pull-ups. Even that is limited by the fact that you have to keep yours knees bent the whole time to avoid your feet touching the floor.
Fit my door frame well and seems stable. In general worth the money and recommended.
